Kenya's St. Anthony's are closing on the knockout stage of the East Africa Secondary School Ball Games after a 3-0 win over Zanzibar's Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi on Tuesday.
In the game, the Kenyan side took a 21st-minute lead through Daniel Odhiambo; the goal being the only difference as both teams headed for the half time break. Goals from Issa Lumumba and Alphonce Omondi in the 66th and 76th minutes respectively did the job for the Peter Mayoyo side.
St. Anthony's had started the campaign with a 4-0 win over Tanzania's Lindi but fell short in their second game where they fell to a solitary goal at the hands of Uganda side Buddo Secondary School who are the defending champions of the tournament.
All the Kenya representative now need to do is to overcome Tanzania's Stahiza in their final pool 'A' match on Wednesday if they harbour any ambitions of making it to the quarter-final stage.
In the girls' category, Kenya reps Itigo Girls High School kept their knockout hopes alive after holding Tanzania's Kibasila Secondary School to a scoreless draw.
The result took their tally to five points following a win and two draws and they will hope to get past Uganda's Kawempe Muslim in their final pool match on Wednesday.
