New Zimbabwe caretaker coach Joey Antipas is targeting foreign players with Zimbabwean roots.
Just over a day after getting appointed as Warriors caretaker coach, Antipas has shared a fresh idea to introduce foreign-based players who are eligible to represent Zimbabwe - starting with Charlton Athletic striker Macauley Bonne.
“We have very good players available for selection and my wish is for the authorities to sort out the papers of Macauley Bonne so that we can include him in our next squad,” Antipas told The Herald.
“I have been following his progress, and I can tell you that he is a very good player whom I think can add value to the team.”
Antipas revealed that his thinking is essentially inspired by developing stronger competition in his front line as Zimbabwe coach.
“If his papers are regularised, we will definitely have him in the team, we want to make competition for places very tight.’’
Antipas’ debut will be away to Somalia in a World Cup qualifier on 2 September.
