CAF CL: Eagles soar at Orlando Stadium to dump out Pirates

Zambia Super League side Green Eagles progressed to the next round of the CAF Champions League at the expense of South Africa PSL giants Orlando Pirates following a one-all draw at Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.

Eagles came into the match with a one-goal advantage thanks to their one-nil win in the first and needed just a draw to progress while the Buccaneers were in need of an outright win.

Influential forward Thembinkosi Lorch returned for the Sea Robbers after missing the first leg while the Kawale boys were still without captain Ceasor Hakaloba and defender Boniface Sunzu who are still out injured.

As expected the home side dominated the match and we're looking for an early goal but Sebastian Mwange and his defense were up to the task. Gabadinho Mhago, Lorch and Vincent Pule all came close but Mwange's reflexes kept the match at 0-0.

Happy Jele finally broke the deadlock in the 60th minute heading home from a corner to put the Buccaneers in the lead ending an over 400-minute goal drought. The celebrations were however shortlived as Amity Shamende leveled matters almost immediately.

The Sea Robbers continued to press in the last minutes but Mwange continued with his brilliance to make sure the match needed level at 1-1 to send Eagles through to the next round 2-1 on aggregate breaking the hearts of the Pirates fans.

The Kawale boys will now face Angolan giants Clube Desportivo 1º de Agosto who dumped out Tanzanian side KMKM.
