🦁 🌍 English Premier League: Three African stars make our best XI this weekend

Futaa has picked out its best XI from a Premier League weekend which saw a record amount of away wins and a familiar feeling for Arsenal at Anfield.

Did your favourite stars make the grade?

Goalkeeper 🧤

Aston Villa's Tom Heaton was tested in the first half an hour by Everton on Friday night but the Englishman kept his and Villa's sheet clean in an encouraging result for the Premier League newcomers.

Defence 🤺

Liverpool starlet Trent Alexander-Arnold was a constant thorn in Arsenal's side on Saturday night and he picked up another assist in the Reds' 3-1 win, that's now nine in his last 10 appearances at Anfield for Liverpool in all competitions. Both Virgil van Dijk and Joël Matip excelled alongside the young Englishman but Cameroonian Matip gets into the side here for his goal and assured performance. Newcastle centre back Paul Dummett was rock solid for the Magpies as they pulled off a brilliant away win at Spurs after withstanding a barrage of late pressure. Crystal Palace left-back Patrick van Aanholt is included after his winner at Old Trafford from left-back.

Midfield 🥽

Versatile Brazilian Fabinho brought great balance to Liverpool's midfield as they outplayed and outthought Arsenal's central players, he also assisted Mo Salah's second and Liverpool's third. Aston Villa's John McGinn anchored his side's efforts on Friday night and outplayed Everton's central duo to steer Villa to their first win and a clean sheet of the campaign. McGinn also got an assist for good measure.

Crystal Palace continued their impressive habit of winning away from home against the traditional big six, this time with a 2-1 success at Old Trafford. Wilf Zaha was a constant menace, cutting in from the right and giving Luke Shaw a torrid time. Manchester City captain David Silva marked his 400th appearance for the club with two assists in a typically brilliant performance on his recall to the side at Bournemouth. Two-goal Mohamed Salah sparkled against Arsenal with an emphatic penalty, a typically unerring left-footed strike and a generally devastating performance. That's now five goals and two assists against Arsenal in five meetings for the Egyptian superstar.

Attack 🎯

Chelsea's commitment to "project youth" could start paying dividends after Tammy Abraham became the third-youngest player to score a Premier League brace in Chelsea's history. Abraham's selection in our best XI means that another brace goal-scorer from the weekend, Sergio Aguero against Bournemouth, is harshly excluded.

All-star XI (4-2-3-1) 🧮

Heaton; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Dummett, van Aanholt; Fabinho, McGinn; Salah, Silva, Zaha; Abraham

Substitutes 🗣

Martin Dubravka, Virgil Van Dijk, Georginio Wijnaldum, Moussa Djenepo, Sebastian Haller, Felipe Anderson, Sergio Agüero
