Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Fred has not featured for the club due to being behind Paul Pogba, Scot McTominay, and Nemanja Matic in the pecking order.
Fred struggled in his first season at Old Trafford following his £52million move from Shakthar Donetsk, but with United failing to strengthen in midfield this summer and losing Ander Herrera, he is likely to get the nod eventually. The Brazilian has failed to make any of United's three matchday squads in the Premier League so far this season.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of the Southampton clash, Solskjaer revealed why Fred has not featured, "He’s fine, he’s working hard. At the moment, he’s behind Paul and Nemanja and Scott. That’s the reason he hasn’t been involved.
"It’s the most difficult period in August to manage a big squad because there is only one game a week and everyone is fit because we’ve just had pre-season and everyone is ready to play. September, October, November, December is when injuries come and that’s when you play most of the games, so he will play plenty of football."
