Ronaldo, Messi and Van Dijk to battle again for FIFA Best award

Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Virgil van Dijk will once again battle it out for the Best FIFA Men's player in the Best FIFA Football Awards.

The trio came head to head for Europe's Best Player of the Season, with the Liverpool and Dutch defender beating the two to the win.

The list of nominees was released by FIFA on Monday afternoon with the winners set to be announced on September 23rd.

Van Dijk had a stellar season with Liverpool and the Dutch team, lifting the Champions League with the former and losing in the UEFA Nations League with the Netherlands against Portugal.

Ronaldo, on the other hand, had a decent start to life in Italy with Juventus and was voted Seria A's Player of the season.

He also led his team to the inaugural Nations League title, beating Dijk's Netherlands in the finals.

Messi was also phenomenal for Barcelona through the campaign, leading them to the La Liga win ahead of rivals Real Madrid.

Other notable awards will see Pep Guardiola, Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp battle for the best coach, after stellar seasons with respective clubs.

All eight of these awards, as well as the inaugural FIFA/FIFPro Women’s World11, the FIFA FIFPro Men’s World11 and the FIFA Fair Play Award, will be handed out on 23 September.
