Enosh Ochieng was one of the stars of the Kenya Premier League last season, taking home the Golden Boot gong after beating closest rival Allan Wanga and Umaru Kasumba.
Ochieng scored 17 goals to top the charts and was nominated for the Most Valuable Player of the Season to cap off a stellar campaign.
After that phenomenal season, will he manage to keep up or even better his tally?
The Ulinizi Stars attacker opened the new 2019/20 season on a high, scoring a brace in the team's 2-0 win over Kisumu All-Stars away in Kisumu.
He is showing no signs of slowing and might go further to beat his tally from last season if his start is anything to go by.
Club's interests coming first
Speaking to the club's official website, Ochieng indicated he will put the club's interests first before focussing on his own achievements, even though you cannot separate the two.
“We went to play a team we knew so little about but all we wanted was a win. That was very crucial because last season we lost the first match and we struggled a bit thereafter. Now we have a few days to rest before we get to the next game and we want to keep the focus and pick maximum points there too,” he said.
He might have the pressure to deliver again this season owing to his success last campaign, and with the team having made a positive start with a win, better times might lie ahead for the 25-year-old.
“Pressure is always there; in my case it is bigger because of what I achieved last season but then I have to be mature enough to contain it. I believe in doing the job for the team first; that way I will be remembered more,” he added.
Competition at the top
It's already crowded at the top of the League's top scorers' charts, with three other players joining Ochieng on the list all on two goals each. They are;
- Muchiri Boniface - Tusker
- Kenneth Muguna - Gor Mahia
- Kepha Nyamanya - Zoo
If the leading pack continue with the form shown in the opening matches, then we will be in for a high-scoring and cut-throat competition in the race for the Golden Boot.
