Of Draws, Goal drought and Wazito search of an elusive win

After a two-week rest owing to the international break, the Kenyan Premier League resumed over the weekend with various games across the nation.

With Gor Mahia and Bandari FC all on continental duties, the onus was on the other teams to make their games count more so after so many setbacks in the opening day of the season.

The absence of Gor Mahia who saw their game against Tusker FC a fortnight ago produce seven goals might have caused damage in the number of goals recorded as week two would only provide seven goals; a big difference from week one where a total of 26 goals was recorded.

On Saturday, James Nandwa showed that despite the mass exodus from the team he inherited, Sony Sugar was not in the league just to let teams roll over them.

After their opening day defeat to KCB, the Awendo based side walked into Bungoma’s Sudi Stadium and picked three points courtesy of a 2-1 win over hosts Nzoia Sugar FC. A two-goal lead through Salmon Agogo and Stephen Onyango ensured that Kevin Juma’s late goal was a mere consolation.

That was the only game that had a winner with the other six games ending in draws. Of the six, four matches recorded scoreless draw with AFC Leopards and Kisumu All-Stars the teams yet to score any goal this season.

Despite their spending spree in the summer, Wazito FC is yet to get the elusive win since their return to the top flight and was unlucky not to leave Kisumu empty-handed after being troubled by Western Stima FC in week Two.

The team had been held to a 1-1 draw by Nzoia Sugar FC in their league opener this after Elvis Rupia scored a penalty to ensure a share of spoils with their visitors on that day.

Mathare United is another team yet to record a win and was lucky to come out of Machakos with Klinsman Omulanga scoring at the death to cancel a Timothy Otieno earlier penalty.
