AS Roma Daniele De Rossi is reportedly in contention for a shock return to the Italy national team according to Daily Mail Online.
De Rossi who is currently plying his trade for Boca Juniors in Argentina announced his retirement from international football in November 2017 after Italy's shock defeat to Sweden, which denied them a place at the 2018 World Cup.
However, Italian publication Il Romanista are of the belief that manager Roberto Mancini will hand the legend a call-up to the national team ahead of the Euro 2020 qualifiers with Greece and Liechtenstein in October.
Italy's match against Greece on October 12 could be a very special occasion for De Rossi as they could get the opportunity to book their spot at the 2020 European Championships.
De Rossi made approximately 117 appearances for the national team, scoring 21 goals as well as being part of the squad that won the 2006 Fifa World Cup that was held in Germany.
The midfielder found the back of the net 63 times from 616 appearances for Roma - Francesco Totti is the only player who has played more games (768) for the Serie A side.
