KPL Preview: Two Derbies set for this weekend as KPL enters Round Four

Fans will be treated to a taste of the Mboka Derby pitting Kisumu All Stars vs Western Stima and the Slum Derby between Kariobangi Sharks and Mathare United as Kenyan Premier League enters Round Four.

All Stars vs Stima

Kisumu All-Stars will play their first-ever Mboka Derby in the KPL this weekend as they seek their first win of the season. Promoted sides have struggled to adapt to life in top tier with Wazito suffering a similar fate to All-Stars. Surprisingly All-Stars have lost all their games at home while they managed a barren draw against KCB.

Stima are unbeaten in the league and sit fifth on the log and will be oozing with confidence after their 1-0 win over Posta Rangers. Stima are unbeaten in their last five home games having let in only a single goal in the process which coincidentally came in the win over Rangers last season.

Sharks vs Mathare

Kariobangi Sharks have dominated the Slum Derby since earning promotion to the KPL back in 2017 with Mathare winning only one of the last six meetings. Sharks are winless this season and suffered a 3-0 heavy loss on the road at the hands of Kakamega Homeboyz. Sharks midfielder Duke Abuya will be up against his former employers after scoring in the last derby.

Life under Salim Ali has started well for Mathare United having gone unbeaten in their opening three games since being promoted from his assistant coach role following the departure of Francis Kimanzi who has since joined the National Team. They sit fourth on the log and will be looking for back to back wins for the first time since May.

Tusker vs Sofapaka

This fixture has produced a goal-fest in the past seasons and if their recent form is anything to go by another thriller should be expected. Sofapaka finally picked up their first win under new Portuguese tactician Divalvo Alves with a 4-0 thumping of Chemelil.

Tusker also picked up their first win of the season last weekend courtesy of a last gasp winner from Luke Namanda to sink Zoo FC. The Brewers have shipped in goals in all their games this season with their last clean sheet coming against AFC Leopards in the second last game of the season.

AFC Leopards vs Chemelil

Since beating Leopards back in 2017, Chemelil are yet to win a game against Ingwe. Chemelil have a poor form having not won a game this season and are the only side yet to register a single point though they have played a game less.

Leopards picked up their first win of the season over Wazito last weekend to end their four-game winless run. Ingwe have struggled for goals this season having scored only once after John Makwatta's penalty handed Wazito a loss, their defense, however, has been solid keeping two clean sheets in a row.
