Mwalala pins Bandari CAF fairytale to proper preseason

Bandari FC head coach Bernard Mwalala has pinned their fairytale in the CAF Confederations Cup to a proper preseason.

Bandari saw off Tunisia side US Ben Guardane in the first round of the Confederations Cup and according to Mwalala, the preseason games they had in South Africa and Rwanda (CECAFA Kagame Cup) gave them a glimpse of what to expect in the continental competition.

“I think during our preseason in South Africa and in CECAFA (Kagame Cup), we faced teams that had a bit of experience with the teams participating in these continental tournaments. They were good outings where we picked lessons and I think the more we face teams in the competition the more we learn.

“I have a young team that has never been in this competition so it’s still a learning process in each game. We know we will be facing sterner tests considering there are teams from the Champions League in the next round but we are ready,” Mwalala said.

Good Second Half

On the game on Sunday, Mwalala said they started off badly but restructured in the second half something he says should have his players lauded.

“I want to thank the boys for good performance. They were good and I believe our plan worked more so in the second half. The two quick early goals unsettled us in the entire first half but I think we came back strongly,” he added.

Attention for Bandari now turns to the Kenyan Premier League where they are slated to take on Posta Rangers in their next tie.
