Kenya’s Harambee Starlets held hosts Ghana to a goalless draw in an Olympic Qualifier clash staged at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday 4 October.
The win is a boost for Starlets who hosts Ghana for the second leg on Tuesday next week with a win of any margin taking them to the next stage.
Starlets tactics in the game were on point with Ghana looking fragile in the better part of the first half. The hosts, however, were to hit the post in the latter stages of the second half after some energy from their substitutes; Kenya being a victim of two missed chances towards the tail end.
The winner of the tie-on aggregate proceeds to the tournament’s fourth qualifying round, where Starlets could meet either of Zambia or Botswana.
The fourth-round winner will proceed to the fifth and final qualifying round, whose winner gets a place in the 2020 Summer Olympics, while the loser gets a lifeline in a playoff against the South American Football Confederation’s (CONMEBOL) second-placed team.
