Liverpool to rival Manchester United for Germany striker

English Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool will go head to head in luring Germany striker Thomas Muller to their camps.

The Mirror reports that both clubs are willing to go for the Bayern Munich striker in the January window in their respective bids to boost their attacks.

The German striker is said to be open to leaving Bayern in January after being pushed down the attacking pecking order following the arrival of Phillipe Coutinho; a move that has seen him omitted from the national team squad.

Desperate for a striker

Ole Gunnar is in desperate need of attacking reinforcements having seen his strikers fail to flourish in front of goal; this coming after failing to replace Romelu Lukaku who was sold to Serie A giants Inter Milan in the summer.

Liverpool, on the other hand, expressed interest in Muller in 2017, with Jurgen Klopp making a concerted effort to bring his fellow countryman to Anfield, but no deal materialized.

For them, it is not a matter of life and death since they have the likes of Arnold Origi who can play the main striking role should Roberto Firminho suffer an injury.
