Norman Mapeza is not delighted with his new squad at Chippa United and his mind is on getting a few faces from the Zimbabwean Premier League.
Mapeza, two games into his tenure as Chippa United coach with one lost and a win, did not hide his low rating of his squad after last weekend’s 2-0 defeat from Highlands Park.
“Things are going to be difficult here, we need to bring in new faces. It’s clear, we need to bring in new faces,” Mapeza said to Kick Off.
The former FC Platinum man further explained his position. Mapeza underlined the fact that poor results and a lack of quality players always end in a job loss.
“I have to be honest with you. I didn’t come here to perform miracles. I’m a football coach, and I know this terrain. If things don’t go well, for me as a coach you either resign or you get fired.”
Mapeza concluded his reaction by indicating that Chippa will have an eventful period during the upcoming January transfer window.
“We have to look for new players, but for now we have to work with what we have until December.”
“We have been talking about maybe getting some players on loan, maybe in the first division. If it means bringing one or two guys from Zimbabwe, I have to do that because upfront we need people who can score goals,” concluded Mapeza.
Current Chippa United strikers:
- Andile Mbenyane (31): Zero goals in six appearances.
- Rhulani Manzini (31): Zero goals in eight games.
- Lerato Manzini (29): One goal in nine games.
- Augustine Chidi Kwem (22): Zero appearances.
The club known as the Chilli Boys are currently placed rock bottom of the league. The next two games will be Mamelodi Sundowns in a Cup game this weekend - before a league clash against leaders Kaizer Chiefs.
