Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku equaled Ronaldo’s record after bagging a brace in Inter Milan’s 2-1 win over Bologna.
With the goals, the former Manchester United striker became the first player to score nine or more goals in their first eleven Serie A games for Inter since Ronaldo in the 1997/98 season.
Lukaku converted a penalty in stoppage-time as Inter moved back to the top of the table, albeit briefly this after Juventus won the Derby della Mole against Torino later on.
Away From Home
The win saw Inter become the only side in Europe’s big-five leagues this season to have won every game that they have played away from home so far this season.
Bologna was on a path of victory after taking an early lead but Lukaku restored parity fifteen minutes from time after scrambling the ball home from a corner and tucked in a penalty in the dying minutes after Lautaro Martinez had been brought down in the box.
Lukaku will hope he can replicate Ronaldo’s heroics in 1998 after he was named Serie A Footballer of the Year and finished the season with 25 league goals.
