Pep Guardiola has revealed that he was not sarcastic to referee Michael Oliver after Manchester City's 3-1 loss to Liverpool.
After the full-time whistle, Guardiola approached the match officials saying 'thank you so much' in an apparent show of sarcasm.
City were denied a penalty on one end when Trent Alexander-Arnold handled the ball inside the box as Fabinho scored on the other end almost immediately.
Speaking in a press conference after the match, Guardiola revealed what he told Oliver after the match, "It was not sarcastic. I say thank you so much all the time, I said the same at Tottenham game at home, all the time I go to referees I say thank you so much."
When asked about the referee's decisions, Guardiola was none committal, "You’ll have to ask [PGMOL chief] Mike Riley and the big bosses about that. I’m not here to talk about the decisions over the referees or VAR. Don’t ask me, ask them."
