Former Malawi international defender Patrick Mabedi has opened up on his attempt to lure Gabadinho Mhango to Kaizer Chiefs.
Mabedi who plied his trade with Chiefs as a player and as an assistant coach told KickOff that he was the sole reason why Mhango came to South Africa and further admitted that he was behind the striker's move to Bloemfontein Celtic.
"I know him better than anyone else because I am the one who brought him here to South Africa," he told KickOff via TEAMtalk Media.
"I brought him to (Bloemfontein) Celtic, he started his career at Celtic. He was staying by my house and I even paid his tickets and everything from Malawi to come to this side."
The 46-year-old also told the publication that he approached the Chiefs hierarchy about a possible move for the former Bidvest Wits player but nothing came of the talks.
"And even those days my aim was to bring him to Chiefs, but unfortunately you know you can't go to Chiefs in those moments when you haven't made a name anywhere, and there are doubts about it.
"That was my wish (for him), to play at Chiefs for the first time, but it was not easy because you must remember, Chiefs those days, they had very good quality players and you had to go there with a big brand you know, that you've done something out there.
"In those days I spoke to the chairman, even Bobby and they are aware of that. But unfortunately, like I said it's not easy my man just to go to Chiefs, you have to go and do something."
