πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦πŸ†πŸŒ South African FA rejects CAF's plea to urgently host 2020 Women's AFCON

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have learnt that SAFA have declined the request to aid as the new urgent hosts of Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) 2020.

Congo were initially set as the hosting nation until the Central African nation pulled out in July - leading CAF to turn to SAFA in today’s executive meeting.

SAFA’s interim CEO Gay Mokoena confirmed that Mzansi will pass on the suggestion and instead commit to their bid for the FIFA 2023 Women’s World Cup.

“We are not going to express an interest on this. We are instead trying to focus our efforts on the 2023 FIFA World Cup‚” Mokoena told TimesLIVE.

“I will write to CAF to advise them that we will not express any interest to host this tournament.”

Meanwhile, South Africa are expected to register their Women’s World Cup by 13 December before the hosts announcement gets revealed in May 2020. Six other hopefuls include Argentina‚ Australia‚ Brazil‚ Colombia‚ Japan and South Korea.
