AFC Leopards barred from using Kasarani Stadium

Kenyan premier League side AFC Leopards have been barred from using the MISC Kasarani by the Sports Stadium management following the damage they caused in their last game on the venue against arch rivals Gor Mahia.

Leopards were slated to take league newbies Kisumu All-Stars at Kasarani but the ban has seen them shift the game to Kenyatta Stadium-Machakos.

Apart from being barred from the stadium, Leopards total estimate of the damage they caused cost Ksh 337, 000 this added to an outstanding bill of Ksh 3.014M they owe the stadium management.

A statement on the club’s portal noted: “AFC Leopards will host Kisumu All-Stars in a Kenya Premier League match in Machakos on Sunday afternoon.

“The match had been initially scheduled to be played at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani venue close and accessible to most fans. However, the team has been asked to stay away from the facility after a section of fans caused damage during our last KPL match.

Damaged Seats

“The Kasarani management indicated that several seats were damaged and estimated the total cost of the damage to be Ksh337,000. The management further indicated that we have an outstanding bill of KShs 3, 014,240 from previous disturbances. Therefore, the total cost of a section of our fan’s ill-discipline and acts of hooliganism is KSh 3,351,240.

“We, therefore, would like to urge our fans to exercise peace and restraint while attending our matches. A conducive stadium environment is not only attractive to more football lovers and partners but it saves the club a lot of money.

“Due to the senseless and indefensible acts of a minority, we’re now forced to host our matches in Machakos until we foot the cost of hooliganism. We’re looking forward to seeing you all in Machakos as we host Kisumu All-Stars on Sunday at 4.15 pm.
