Harambee Stars midfielder Johanna Omollo was on the scoresheet as Cercle Brugge succumbed to a 2-1 loss at the hands of Standard Liege in a Belgium top-flight clash staged at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne on Sunday 1 December.
Omolo who scored Harambee Stars lone goal as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Togo last month completed the entire game which saw hosts Liege take a half time lead courtesy of a strike from Amallah in the 28th minute.
Omolo thought he had earned his side a point with his equalizer in the 75th minute but Avenatti had other ideas as his goal two minutes into the extra time denied his side a famous draw against a team currently placed second on the league.
The loss dented Brugge’s aim of rising from the foot of the log where they are rooted with eight points and stares at relegation to the first division should they fail to change their fortunes.
Brugge next tie will be another tough tie against Genk-home to Tanzania international Mbwanna Samatta-on Saturday 7 December with Omolo hoping that he can get more game time as he looks to be at per with the rest of the squad since returning from injury.
