'We painted the City Red' - Ole Gunnar likens Man United win with PSG victory

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ranked their 2-1 win over Manchester City as his best at the club's helm alongside the Champions League win over PSG last season.

Two quick goals in the first half were enough to give Man United the win, their second in a week, even though they 'suffered' for long periods in the second half.

Marcus Rashford gave United the lead from the spot on the 23rd minute before a near-post effort from Anthony Martial doubled their lead a few minutes later.

Nicholas Otamendi then pulled one back for the hosts with five minutes to go, but it was not enough as the visitors held on to win the match.

Speaking after the game, Ole Gunnar hailed his team, saying they should have scored more as they carved City open from time to time.

“We were fantastic. At the start of the game, we were exceptional. We were attacking every time we got the ball and it looked like we could carve them open every time. We could have, should have been three, four, five up and that's a testament to the boys because they played so well.

”It's so hard to play against them, and their players were coming from everywhere, every angle and the boys defended so well.“

”This result is up there with PSG, definitely, and we're so happy for the supporters as well. Just go out in town and enjoy yourself!“

This was Man United's second win in a row against the traditional 'top six' teams, having seen off Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur in midweek.

The win saw United move to fifth on teh standings on 24 points from 16 matches, and will be buoyed going into the busy festive period.
