Jose Mourinho takes credit for McTominay rise

Tottenham Hotspurs manager Jose Mourinho has taken credit for the rise of Manchester United midfielder Scot McTominay.

Mourinho has constantly been blamed for not giving youths a chance in his previous work stations something he has vehemently denied.

The Portuguese did introduce Scotland international McTominay to the first team at Old Trafford and he sarcastically reminded the press when asked whether he feels he has neglected young players in the past.

Asked if the criticism on his record with young players was fair ahead of their Wednesday Champions League clash, he said: "Yes it's very important, Scott McTominay is only the best player at Manchester United. Raphael Varane is one of the best players in the world, yes, it's a fair criticism."

McTominay was a standout performer for United in their recent 2-1 win over rivals Manchester City at the Etihad on the weekend and when asked about his thoughts on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he said that they loved him as a group and were going to do everything for him.

"I don't read too much into what gets said online or in the press or different things like that. Obviously it's our duty as players to go out there and do our utmost best for him and hopefully, we can (put on performances for him) because we love him. We love him as a group as well.
