A year after his death, many football fans and teams have paid tribute to Cardiff City’s Emiliano Sala, who died on 21 January 2019, in a plane crash while on his way to his new club.
Then a Nantes striker and soon-to-be Cardiff player, Sala, and pilot David Ibbotson’s plane disappeared on January 21 near the island of Guernsey
The Italian-Argentine was Nantes’ top scorer for three straight seasons.
He was then identified and scouted by Cardiff and a successful €17 million deal was reached.
His former club Nantes has confirmed they will wear a special kit against Bordeaux in the colors of the Argentina national team in memory of Emiliano Sala. The match will be played on January 26.
His to-be club’s fans are laying wreaths at the Fred Keenor statue at the club's stadium.
