Struggling Kenyan Premier League side Wazito on Sunday needed an injury time penalty by Derrick Otanga to earn a draw at Kakamega Homeboyz and end their seven-match winless streak.
Otanga struck the penalty past the Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeper in the 91st minute after Augustine Otu had been felled in the box.
The hosts took the lead in the 54ththrough Chris Masinza and were coasting to victory before moments of madness by a Homeboyz defender gifted Wazito a chance to level the scores. Former Sony Sugar striker Otanga stepped up and made no mistake in sending the goalie the wrong way.
The draw denied Homeboyz a chance to go on top of the Kenyan Premier League log and now remain rooted on the second spot with 40 points.
Earlier on, there was controversy after MadGoat TV, associated with Wazito owner Ricardo Badoer, was ejected from the stadium by Homeboyz boss Toto Shimanyula. The match had been scheduled to be aired by the online TV.
Kick-off was preceded by a moment of silence by both teams in honour of the Wazito's CEO Dennis Gicheru's mother who passed away last week. She was laid to rest on Friday.
