Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has admitted that they were not good enough in their 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
The France striker said that Bayern deserved the win as they were more clinical and superior in the second half.
“Bayern were too strong tonight. We have to face the truth. We were able to compete in the first half, with chances on each side. In the second half, they accelerated with counterattacks. They hurt us and were effective. They scored two goals in three minutes. Psychologically, it’s hard to come back in the game. We must not hide our faces. Bayern deserves to win this match.," he said.
Giroud must be tired of playing against the Germans at this point. In his last four outings against Bayern, he’s lost 5-1, 5-1, 5-1, and 3-0. The first three defeats coming during his time at London rivals Arsenal.
“It’s complicated for me to play. I try to play for my teammates. I had few balls to play in the area. There are nights like this when it’s frustrating for the attackers.”
The 2018 World Cup winner believes that anything can happen in the return leg and Chelsea has nothing to lose.
“We will have to score at least three goals there and not concede. It will be an almost impossible mission. We will go with the desire to score, anyway. And to play with more freedom, less pressure. We will have almost nothing to lose.”
Giroud has been used sparingly this season by Frank Lampard but has of late seen more action as young striker Tammy Abraham sits out with an injury. He will likely to be in the thick of things this weekend when Chelsea travels to Bournemouth on Saturday.
