Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes that Liverpool are the team to beat in this season's UEFA Champions League.
Despite Manchester City's surprise win in Madrid on Wednesday, Ferdinand still tips Liverpool to lift this year's title. City beat Real Madrid 2-1 to take control of the quarterfinal leg ahead of Etihad's return leg next month.
Liverpool fell 1-0 to Atletico Madrid and must be clinical when the two teams meet at Anfield in the return leg. Of the other English teams in the competition, Tottenham trail RB Leipzig 1-0 as they travel to Germany while Chelsea face a daunting task as they will have to overturn 3-0 deficit against Bayern Munich away.
Ferdinand has tipped the Reds to do a double and defend their Champions League title.
"I can’t look no further than Liverpool if I’m honest," Ferdinand told BT Sport.
"I think they’ll go through against Atletico Madrid. I think it’s a tough game but I think Anfield gives it a different dimension.
"Bayern Munich looked great yesterday against a team who are searching for form and their own identity at the moment in Chelsea.
"So they may have peaked a bit early, who knows - going forward they are great but defensively I would be concerned a little bit about Bayern.
"But Liverpool are my standout favourites."
