Liverpool is set to reward defender Virgil van Dijk with a bumper new deal in the summer due to his exemplary performance to the team.
The Dutch captain has been superb for The Reds and has helped them in winning the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup in the past seven months.
Van Dijk, who signed for Liverpool from Southampton for a transfer fee of £75 million in January 2018 is likely to add the Premier League crown as they only have four more victories to be confirmed champions.
The Mirror reports that Van Dijk-who originally signed a five-year deal with Liverpool in 2018, with the club able to exercise the clause for a further year to tie him down until 2024-will meet the club’s official in the summer with the player set to be the world’s highest-paid defender.
The exact details of the new deal have not been disclosed but Liverpool is said to be planning to build around the defender as he is seen as a leader and one who can help the upcoming players at the club.
He has been irreplaceable in the Liverpool defence and he will hope to carry the same form in the Euro 2020 with the Netherlands national team.
