English Premier League giants Manchester United is set to investigate its section of fans after a foul-mouthed abuse aimed at Jesse Lingard.
The incident is said to have happened in the club’s 3-0 win over Derby County in the FA Cup on Thursday with the club set to contact their hosts as part of a further investigation.
A video on social media showed fans subjecting Lingard to a torrent of abuse as he boarded the team bus after United’s 3-0 win over Derby at Pride Park; the player has had a rough time with fans due to his social media antics.
Many of them feel he hasn’t replicated the energy in his social media duties to the field with fans previously calling for his ouster from the team.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, however, has always backed the 27-year-old and has not shied away from defending him during his media briefings.
Lingard played the full 90 minutes against Derby but has not been part of United’s starting lineup in the league since New Year’s Day against Arsenal.
He has only scored twice across all competitions this season and the arrival of Bruno Fernandes has only complicated his role with the team.
