Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has paid tribute to former Aston Villa player Peter Whittingham, who passed away at the age of 35.
Whittingham was pronounced dead on Thursday afternoon in hospital, after suffering a head injury last week.
Solskajer managed Whittingham at Cardiff City, when they played in the Premier League in 2014.
“I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Peter Whittingham," he said after learning of Peter's demise.
“Peter was a fantastic footballer and an incredible human being. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him during my time at Cardiff City.
“It’s hard to believe that he has been taken from us at such a young age. Peter will be deeply missed and our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time,” he added.
Whittingham retired in 2018 after a 15-year career which saw him represent Aston Villa, Burnley, Derby County, and Blackburn Rovers.
