Emmanuel Adebayor checked into self-isolation in Cotonou, Benin soon after jetting in from his Paraguayan base.
But this trip has not gone down well with his club CD Olimpia who have sent out a strong statement questioning the rationale of leaving Asuncion.
"As an institution, we informed him of the risks that this trip entailed, but his decision was to spend this time with his family, " the club said in a statement published on its social media accounts.
As the Covid-19 outbreak sweeps across the globe, football clubs have advised their players to stay at home and avoid unnecessary trips. Training and other club activities have been also suspended.
However, the Togolese journeyman decided to leave the country and be with his people in Lome. He was advised to checking self-isolation in Cotonou for 14 days before proceeding with the journey.
Adebayor is not the only footballer to have left their bases to fly back to their home countries. Neymar and Thiago Silva jetted back to brazil while Rwanda's Meddie Kagere and Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza have been barred from returning to their clubs in Tanzania.
