⚪️ Two African legends make our Leeds United all-time best XI of the Premier League era

Plenty of world-class footballers have worn the famous white jersey of Leeds United which makes the selection of an all-time Leeds XI a difficult task.

The Yorkshire team famously made it all the way to the 2001 Champions League semifinals but the club's fortunes changed dramatically when they were relegated and went into administration just three years later. They're back in the big time now though after a 16-year spell out of the Premier League.

Here goes, with two African icons making the cut.

🧤 Goalkeeper

John Lukic's second spell at Leeds started just in time for him to be a part of the side that won the English title in 1992. He was a regular at Elland Road in their first four Premier League campaigns and is fondly remembered.

🤺 Defence

One-club man Gary Kelly made 483 appearances for the first team and operates on the right side of the defence. In the centre, it's the style of Rio Ferdinand and the steel of legendary South African Lucas Radebe, who spent 11 years with Leeds and inspired the name of British rock band Kaiser Chiefs. Set-piece specialist Ian Harte made the left-back slot at Leeds his own for nine seasons.

🥽 Midfield

David Batty anchored the England midfield and did the same for Leeds over two separate spells, earning himself cult hero status in the terraces. Frenchman Olivier Dacourt arrived at the club in 2000 and was an instant hit, becoming instrumental alongside Batty in the heart of midfield in the Champions League run of 2001.

In the wide areas, we've gone for tenacious Englishman Alan Smith and technically gifted left-footer Australian Harry Kewell. Their complementary skills balance the midfield out nicely.

🎯 Attack

Ghanaian Tony Yeboah only spent two seasons at Elland Road and he had left before their fairytale Champions League run, but he's infamous for his ability to score long-range screamers. Alongside him, we have gone for the silky ability of Mark Viduka. The Aussie ended all four of his seasons at Leeds as the top-scorer and was undoubtedly their key man upfront throughout the Premier League era, a highlight of that spell was a four-goal haul against Liverpool as Leeds won a classic clash 4-3 back in 2000.
