2023 Women's World Cup hosts to be revealed next month

World football governing body FIFA will reveal the host of the 2023 Women's World Cup on June 25 this coming despite its congress being postponed to September.

The winning bid was due to be announced at the FIFA Congress in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on June 5 but the meeting has since been moved to September 18 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A statement from FIFA noted: “In light of the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic is having around the world and the postponement of the FIFA Council meeting that was foreseen to take place in early June 2020 in Addis Ababa, FIFA has today confirmed to the bidding member associations that the selection of the host(s) of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ by the FIFA Council will be made at its meeting to be held online on 25 June 2020.”

The FIFA Council will now announce the host for the tournament during its online meeting next month after bids from various countries.

Countries who had submitted their bids included, Brazil, Colombia, Japan with Australia and New Zealand submitting a joint bid; this being the most competitive bidding race in the history of the tournament.

France hosted the last edition of the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2019, and the 2023 tournament is set to feature 32 teams for the first time.
