Uganda's KCCA FC set to build an international standard stadium

Ugandan side KCCA FC has been given the green light to develop the Philip Omondi Stadium after the Uganda Parliament approved the project

The club's chairman Martin Ssekajja said that the project is estimated at UGX10b ($2.6 million) and the first phase is set to start soon.

“So many people have been wondering what’s happening with the construction of the stadium but I can confirm we’ve gotten part of the funds to start construction which will begin in the next three months” Ssekagya stated before adding.

“We are now looking for a contractor and we’re hopeful in the next two weeks we shall advertise the tender. We envisage this process will take a period of three years, it could have been less but since we don’t have enough money, we can only use what we have.”

The new stadium is expected to be a 10,000 seater with a VIP stand, platinum and ordinary ticket holders.

Ssekaja asked sponsors and fans to supplement the construction budget adding that every penny will be accounted for.

“We would like to call upon sponsors, fans and KCCA FC well-wishers who can lend a helping hand to come through. We are going to create an app that everyone will use to donate their money for this project and we shall account for every penny.”

When completed, the Phillip Omondi Stadium will be only the second standard stadium to be owned by a club in Uganda after Vipers who own St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.
