Birmingham fans were left baffled after the club announced on Thursday they were retiring Jude Bellingham's No.22 shirt.
The youngster agreed on a £23m move to Borussia Dortmund last week, after an impressive campaign with the Championship club.
The decision not to pass the jersey on has however irked fans, who argue that the 17-year-old had not attained legendary status despite his big-money move.
"In such a remarkably short space of time, Jude has become an iconic figure at Blues, showing what can be achieved through talent, hard work, and dedication," read part of the statement from the club.
Adding: "And as such the club have decided it would be fitting to retire this number, to remember one of our own and to inspire others,"

Bellingham made 44 senior appearances for the club in the single-season he played for the senior team.
He has however been at the club since joining the Under-8 team.
Here are some of the responses;
Hahahahahhahahahahahhahaahahh we didnt retire Gerrard's number, Man United didnt retire Cristiano's number, Chelsea didn't retire Terry's and here you are retiring a 17 year olds number who hasn't even made 50+ appearances— Shajid (@LFCShajid) July 23, 2020
After a 17 year old having one decent season??— j (@SPT_JT) July 23, 2020
Completely bonkers decision . Why didn’t you retire the 7 shirt after Demarai left ? Beyond logic no club does this unless you are talking of a once in a generation player and beyond look at the other shirts Maradona , Cruyff ...... Bellingham— Lee Turner (@LeeTurn71) July 23, 2020
Actually ain't got words for how utterly stupid this is.— Matt Blake (@mattblake94) July 23, 2020
I rate him as a player, but he's 17 ffs. He's only played one season and he's not even world class yet.
Can't even describe this.
They don't even cover the half of it.
The 17-year-old played his final game for Blues against Derby County on Wednesday night.
