Manchester United defender Chris Smalling says he is 'gutted' that he will not be able to complete the season with Roma after the Red Devils failed to grant him loan extension.
Smalling will bot be able to complete the season with Roma, who will be taking on Sevilla in the last-16 of Europa League this Thursday. Their initial loan agreement with United for Smalling expired at the end of Serie A season last Sunday and now has returned to Old Trafford.
"I’m gutted that I can’t finish what we started this season," he posted on his Twitter account.
"To experience the love shown to me in such a short time was extra special and it will not be forgotten. I want to thank and wish all the players and staff the best of luck against Sevilla."
United are also in the Europa League, and with a 5-0 first-leg lead over LASK have one foot in the quarter-finals.
