🌍 African stars in the Premier League: Monday roundup

As per usual, African stars shone brightly in the Premier League skies this weekend.

Here's a roundup of the best performances from the continent's finest on the top-flight stage in England. It's worth remembering that there have been 39 goals in eight matchday 2 fixtures at an average of 4.9 goals per game, an all-time record for a weekend of Premier League matches.

🇨🇩 Grady Diangana

DR Congo born, Grady Diangana has been directly involved in five goals in his last eight league appearances for West Brom (four goals, one assist). He scored the opener in the Baggies' 5-2 defeat at Goodison Park on Saturday. The 22-year-old has represented England at U20 and U21 levels.

🇨🇲 André-Frank Zambo Anguissa

Cameroonian midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa assisted Bobby Reid's goal for Fulham as the Cottagers went down 4-3 in a thriller at Elland Road against fellow promoted club, Leeds. Anguissa impressed last season out on loan with Villarreal, and he'll be keen to stake a claim for a regular place under Scott Parker.

🇨🇮 Wilf Zaha

Crystal Palace's Ivorian superstar became the first player to score twice in a Premier League game against Manchester United having previously appeared for them in the competition. Ghanaian Jeffrey Schlupp was on hand to provide the assist for Andros Townsend's early goal that built the foundations for a famous Palace win at the Theatre of Dreams.

🇬🇦 Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal's Gabonese skipper wasn't on the score sheet this weekend, but he turned provider for Alex Lacazette's opener against West Ham. The Gunners were not at their best but ground out a 2-1 win thanks to a late Eddie Nketiah winner to preserve their 100% start to the new season.

🇲🇱 Yves Bissouma

Brighton's impressive 3-0 win away to Newcastle was somewhat tarnished by a late red card for Yves Bissouma. The Malian midfielder was supreme in the heart of the engine room for Graham Potter's team and they'll have to do without his industry and tenacity for the next three games. Let's see how they cope.

🇸🇳 Sadio Mané

Senegal superstar Sadio Mané was Liverpool's matchwinner in their 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Mane bagged both goals as the defending champions flexed their muscles and put down an early marker in 2020-21. Once again, Mané has underlined his world-class capabilities.

Tonight there is action from Villa Park and Molineux as Aston Villa meet Sheffield United and Wolves welcome Man City. The African interest tonight will revolve around Trézéguet for Aston Villa and, if Zimbabwean midfielder Marvelous Nakamba is deemed fit, he should also make Dean Smith's matchday squad. Moroccan left-footer Romain Saïss is a mainstay in defence for Nuno Espirito Santo, and he should take his place on the left-hand side of the Wolves back three tonight.
