🏆 EFL Roundup: Watford, West Brom shocked as Spurs game in abandoned

Watford and West Bromwich Albion were the biggest losers on Tuesday night as the English Football Cup staged four games on Tuesday night.

It was fourth-tier side Newport who eliminated favourites, Watford, with a 3-1 win at Rodney Parade. It was the first time Watford conceded three times to fourth-tier opposition in an EFL Cup game for the first time since 1973.

The homes side had taken the lead through Tristan Abrahams in the 18th minute from a penalty spot before doubling that advantage before the break when Joss Labadie fired a beauty into the top corner.

Adalberto Peñaranda pulled one back for Watford from the spot but on 65 minutes, County made sure of the win when Pádraig Amond capitalized on a slack defensive pass to calmly find the net.

Another shocker came in the game against West Brom where the Premier League side went down to Brentford on post-match penalties after a 2-2 draw in regular time.

Three of those goals came from the spot, with two for Hal Robson-Kanu and one for the Bees’ Marcus Forss but it was the other which was most special, Emiliano Marcondes blasting a beautiful overhead kick in off the crossbar.

There were wins for West Ham United and Manchester United with the former emerging 5-1 winners over Hull City with the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer side coming out 3-0 winners over Luton Town.

The game between Tottenham Hotspur and Leyton Orient was postponed at the 11th hour due to several COVID-19 infections within the home side. A decision is yet to be made on a potential new date or whether Tottenham will advance.
