Fulham 0-3 Aston Villa: Villans stun Cottagers to record best start to a league season in two decades

Aston Villa won their second match of the new Premier League campaign with a resounding 3-0 victory away to Fulham on Monday night.

The Villans, playing their second match, got off to a perfect start with Jack Grealish getting the opener on the fourth minute, nicely controlling a John McGinn cross to fire past the keeper.

The visitors then controlled the match from that point, giving the hosts little space to get a response.

It got even better for Villa as they grabbed a second on the quarter-hour mark, McGinn again turning provider for Conor Hourihane, following a fantastic team effort that involved Grealish once again.

Fulham could not find a response in the first half as Villa went into the break leading 2-0.

They started the second half in a similar fashion to the first and found themselves 3-0 up with three minutes on the clock.

The Villans got a free-kick on the byline, which was whipped into the box by Hourihane and Tyrone Mings got in a shot, sending the ball into the bottom right corner.

Scott Parker's men thought they had pulled one back on the 56th minute, but after a couple of minutes that involved consulting the VAR, the goal was disallowed due to a foul committed before the ball hit the net.

Both teams got a number of chances to find the back of the net, with the hosts, in particular, coming close when Joe Bryan created some space on the edge of the box and unleashed a ferocious shot,  but it crashed against the post.

Villa held on to pick maximum points, making the best start to a Premier League season in 21 years.
