KCB FC has gone on top of the FKFPL table after recording a hard-fought 1-0 win over Nairobi City Stars on Friday afternoon.
As expected, the earlier exchanges of the game were an exciting one with City Stars not looking anywhere near a team who came to the top flight to add numbers.
Veteran midfielder Anthony Kimani was the first to enter the referee's book as both teams looked to get the better of the other.
With the game destined for a scoreless draw at the break, KCB was to take the lead in the 41st minute through Henry Onyango, who pulled a pile-driver to the top right corner much to the delight of coach Zedekiah Otieno on the bench; the goal that was to be the difference at the break.
On resumption, the bankers were the first to make a double substitution with Egwanda Agwanda and Vincent Wasambo getting in for goal scorer Henry and Brian Ochieng. City Stars were to make the same move two minutes later when midfielder Sven Yidah and Rodgers Okumu were to make into the field of play for Elvis Ojiambo and Vincent Okoth.
With City tars upping the tempo, KCB resorted to time-wasting tactics which saw wing-back David Owino get booked in the 70th minute. Another double change for City Stars then ensued where Ezekiel Odera and Edwin Muliba were introduced for Aziz Okaka and Oliver Maloba.
Despite a late surge by the league newbies, KCB was to hold on for their second successive win of the season.
