Burnley 0-1 Manchester United: Pogba strike sends United top

Paul Pogba strike in the second half was all Manchester United needed to go on top of the Premier League after seeing off Burnely 1-0 at Turf Moor on Tuesday night.

United came into the game knowing that a win or a draw would see them go-to of the Premier League but they were aware too that hosts Burnely were never going to let things easy for them.

After a balanced early exchange in the game, the game came bright in the 27th minute where the referee was called to make tough decisions on both teams. The hosts had broke through Gudmundsson who was clattered by Luke Shaw for a United break on the other end. Edinson Cavani was to be brought down by Brady in what looked like denying a goal-scoring opportunity.

After the VAR check on both the Shaw and Brady incident, Shaw was given a yellow card with the latter walking scot-free.

When the game resumed, United upped the tempo and thought they had taken the lead in the 38th minute when captain Harry Maguire nodded in a Shaw cross but he was adjudged to have fouled Pieters in the process; no team seeing the better of the other at the half time break.

Man United came a different team in the second half but had to wait until in the 71st minute to get their opener from Paul Pogba. The hovering Frenchman pulling a stunning volley past Nick Pope in the Burnley goal after a lovely cross from Marcus Rashford.

Rashford was to be withdrawn for Greenwood with Burnley throwing on Vydra for Woods with ten minutes remaining on the clock; Burnely upping the tempo in the last minutes after Vydra had hit the side netting. The scare from the home side saw United throw in Scott McTominay for Bruno Fernandes. When Martial was withdrawn for Tuanzebe, the job had already been done by the visitors.
