Arsenal opponents in the Europa League Benfica have reported that a total of 17 people from their playing squad have tested positive for Covid.
According to Sky Sports, among those affected is 71-year-old club president Luis Filipe Vieira although he remains asymptomatic.
A tweet from Benfica noted: “Gilberto, Vertonghen, Grimaldo, Diogo Gonçalves and Waldschmidt have tested positive for Covid-19.
“17 new cases of COVID-19 were found among staff, technical team, and players.”
The Portuguese giants who are currently placed third on the league log are due to play a League Cup semi-final against Braga on Wednesday but no information has been given yet if the game will be postponed.
The club comes up against Arsenal in the first leg of their Europa League round of 32 ties on February 18.
