Former Kenya Premier League champions Sofapaka were forced to settle for a 1-1 score away to Vihiga United on Saturday afternoon.
The visitors got off to a perfect start at the Mumias Complex when Kepha Aswani tapped in an Elli Asieche cross in the fourth minute.
The hosts however grew into the match and almost drew level on the half-hour mark when they lodged a dangerous attack and David Simiyu almost drew the hosts level.
It didn't take long though as Patrick Okulo equalised in the 39th minute to force a draw going into the break.
Nixon Omondi then came close to giving the visitors the lead in the 53rd minute, but his header from a Michael Kibwage cross bounced off the bar and went out for goal kick.
Paul Kiongera then missed a good chance to double Sofapaka's lead in the 59th minute, but his shot went over the bar with the goalkeeper beaten.
Despite both sides having numerous chances late on, none could find the winning goal as they settled for a 1-1 draw.
Elsewhere, league leader KCB settled for a barren draw with Ulinzi Stars at the Afraha Stadium.
The Bankers were hoping to continue with their near-perfect start to the season but got the going tough against sixth-placed Soldiers.
Despite the draw, KCB leads the standings on 22 points, two ahead of Tusker in second.
