Lionel Messi is set to break Barcelona Laliga appearance record if he can appear against Cadiz on Sunday.
The Argentina international is currently on 505 league games for the Catalan giants, level with club legend Xavi Hernandez, and has been named in the club’s squad for the tie slated for Camp Nou.
Despite the Catalans facing a hectic run of fixtures in the coming days, Messi is expected to start the game on Sunday with reports rife that he might be rested at one particular point of the game if they can overcome their opponents early.
A 506th league appearance for Messi would take him clear of Xavi and Athletic Bilbao midfielder Raul Garcia; the trio currently tied in 9th place on the all-time appearance list.
Messi however will still be one game behind Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos (507) with the highest appearance maker still playing in Laliga being Real Betis star Joaquin who has managed 567 games.
