FC Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman has explained why he left Antoine Griezmann on the bench during their Saturday night win over Sevilla.
Koman had entrusted Ousmane Dembele and Lionel Messi in his attack with the Dutchman saying that they had changed the system for the game after there were claims that he was sending a message to the Frenchman.
"It's not a message. We decided to change the system and, to be able to get in behind, we put Dembele up top. With the first goal, we said that we needed someone quicker than Griezmann on Messi's side. It's not a punishment,” Koeman said after the game.
In the game, Koeman brought in youngster Ilaix Moribarom from the bench with the player setting up Messi’s second goal with the tactician leaving impressed by the player’s outing.
"He was very good. He was strong and very calm on the ball after coming on. He contributed in the little time he had. He helped us to win,” Koeman added.
With the win, Barca climbed to second on the spot with 53 points; this being two points below leaders Atletico Madrid who have a game in hand.
