News out of England reports that Raphael Varane’s name is being mentioned in the Manchester United offices.
According to the Daily Express, as reported by ESPN, the vastly experienced 27-year-old central defender could end his 11-year stay in Madrid come June 2021.
While Varane’s contract only ends in May 2022, United are eyeing an opportunity of signing the Frenchman at the end of this season on a reduced fee.
"Manchester United are eyeing a move for long-term target Raphael Varane in the summer, according to the Daily Express," ESPN reported.
"The Frenchman's existing contract at Madrid runs out in 2022, which means United's best chance of signing him comes at the end of this season, when Madrid would receive a fee for the central defender.
"Varane could be available for £50m, although Madrid may feel they can hold out for £70m given the dearth of top -- and available -- defenders in Europe," the reported added.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils travel to London to face Crystal Palace in the league on Wednesday night.
