Manchester City's unbeaten run came to a crashing halt after they went down 2-0 against city rivals Manchester United at the Etihad on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola's side had won all of their last 21 games in all competitions and were seeking a club record victory against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.
That, however, did not happen as Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw scored in each half to earn the Red side of Manchester a much-deserved victory.
United got off to a perfect start as they got a penalty inside the first minute after Gabriel Jesus clipped Anthony Martial inside the box.
Fernandes then stepped up to beat Ederson in goal, despite the Brazilian guessing right the and even getting a hand to it.
United then came close to doubling their lead two minutes later when Shaw pounced on a dithering Joao Cancelo ball, but his shot went straight at Ederson, who made an easy save.
City's sloppy play and loss of concentration allowed United to have a number of chances, with Rashford also forcing a save out of Ederson in the opening quarter.
The hosts however grew into the game and came closest to equalising in the 24th minute but Oleksandr Zinchenko's stinging shot was saved by Dean Henderson.
Both teams had a number of half-chances, but none could turn it into goals as United led at the break.
Solskjaer's men then started the second period in a similar fashion to the first, scoring in the opening four minutes.
The goal came a minute after Rodri had crashed his effort against the crossbar, following a neat lay off by Jesus.
Shaw drove forward and fed Rashford to his left before following his run into the box to take the return pass. He took a touch and squeezed his shot between the legs of Rodri and into the bottom corner.
United smelled blood and kept pushing City, coming close on three occasions.
Martial should have scored a third in the 73rd minute after a loose ball squeezed through to the Frenchman, and failed to beat Ederson in a one-on-one situation.
United held on to pick the important win, which saw them move above Leicester City on 54 points, 11 off City, who lead on 65.
