Kariobangi Sharks got the bragging rights in the Slum Derby after beating Mathare United 2-1 in an FKF Premier League match staged at Kasarani on Thursday evening.
Peter Lwasa netted the two goals in the first half to give Sharks the victory that saw them move third in the KPL standings. Khalid Jumaan, who came in as a substitute reduced the deficit three minutes to stoppage time, a goal that turned out to be a consolation.
Kariobangi Sharks opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Peter Lwasa. Sharks had the ball on the left wing with James Mazembe feeding Lwasa, who in return delivered a cross and it was deflected in beating Okello to the near post.
Mathare United was chasing for a leveler and were presented with a brilliant chance but Brandon Obiero stood firm, making double substitutes. Dennis Ochieng and Danson Kago were denied from close range, keeping Sharks in the lead.
Lwasa doubled Sharks' lead in the 31st minute as he netted his second of the game. The forward was released on the left-wing and once again was confident to drive the ball past Okello with a low shot to make it 2-0.
Substitute Khalid Jumaan scored from close range after receiving a looping pass from Daniel from outside the box.
The defeat means Mathare United have gone for five matches without a win and are currently 17th on the log with nine points from 14 matches.
Mathare United will be up against AFC Leopards in their next game while Sharks will take on Zoo.
