Real Madrid 3-1 Liverpool: Vinícius Júnior's brace leaves the Reds with a hill to climb

Real Madrid eased past Liverpool on Tuesday evening following a 3-1 victory over Liverpool in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.

Vinicius Jr and Marcos Asensio gave Real Madrid heading into the halftime whistle. However, in the second half, Jurgen Klopp's side was much improved with Mo Salah give the Premier League side a vital goal but Vinicius scored the third to leave Liverpool with a hill to climb next week.

In the opening minutes, it was all about Real Madrid, controlling possession, creating chances, and pinning Liverpool in their own half. In the 12 minutes, Luca Modric was brought down inside the penalty area, there was a quick VAR check but nothing was given.

In the 27th minute, Madrid took the lead, a well-deserved lead. Toni Kroos spotted the run of Vinicius and released the forward with a beautiful pass, he made a run to Liverpool's penalty area and finished the ball past onrushing Alisson.

Nine minutes later, Real Madrid doubled their lead through Marco Asensio and it was a mistake from Alexander-Arnold. Kroos once again played a simple ball over the top of Liverpool's defence, Arnold got the ball but could only head it into the path of Asensio, who lifted the ball over Alisson before tapping into an empty net.

In the second half, Liverpool got a precious away goal through Mohamed Salah. Jota's shot was blocked by Modric ut the ball fell kindly for Salah and the Egyptian spiked the ball in off the underside of the crossbar. There was a VAR check to confirm if Salah was in an offside position and the goal stood.

Vinicius Jr scored his second of the game to restore Madrid's two-goal lead after he received a beautiful cross from Luka Modrid.
