Ajax manager Erik ten Hag in contention for Tottenham job

According to a source, Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has emerged as a candidate for the Tottenham Hotspur manager's job.

Spurs fired Jose Mourinho on Monday and named Ryan Mason, a 29-year-old former midfielder, as interim manager, but Mason was unable to end Tottenham's trophy drought in his second match, as Manchester City won the EFL Cup on Sunday.

Mason isn't expected to be in charge for the start of the 2021-22 season, and Daniel Levy is said to have named a variety of applicants for the vacant role.

According to The Telegraph, Ajax's Ten Hag is one of those being considered, as his contract with the Amsterdam giants expires in 2022.

Ten Hag guided Ajax to the Champions League semi-finals in the 2018-19 season, where they were eliminated by Spurs in the final four, and he has won 119 of Ajax's 163 games in charge since taking over in 2017.

Brendan Rodgers of Leicester City and Julian Nagelsmann of RB Leipzig have both been linked with the Tottenham job, but the latter is reportedly set to replace Hansi Flick at Bayern Munich.
