Confirmed: 2021 Champions League final to take place in Istanbul

UEFA has confirmed the 2021 Champions League final will take place in Istanbul, Turkey amid the current lockdown restrictions.

Premier League side Manchester City will face either rival Chelsea or Real Madrid on May 29th. It was earlier reported the final could take place in Wembley if it was to be an all-English final but the stadium is already committed to hosting the Championship play-off final on the same date.

"The UEFA Champions League final will take place in Istanbul on May 29 with a limited number of spectators and we are assured the temporary lockdown which is in force until May 17 should not have any impact on the match," a UEFA statement read.

"UEFA continues to work closely with the Turkish Football Federation and the local and national authorities to stage the match safely."

"Detailed information regarding the capacity for the match, travel, and ticketing details will be communicated publicly by the end of the week."

As reported by Sky Sports, UEFA is hoping to secure at least 4,000 tickets for supporters of each of the Champions League finalists.
